The new Walter E. Washington Convention Center, at 2.3 million SF, is Washington, DC's largest building and the sixth largest convention center in the nation.
McKissack & McKissack provided program, design, and construction management services for the new Walter E. Washington Convention Center. The firm provided constructability analysis, budget analysis, sequencing of work, and scheduling. The firm also managed the installation and relocation of 9th and L Streets, tunneling under 9th Street, and bridging over L Street, as well as overseeing stormwater and sediment control. The new Walter E. Washington Convention Center was completed in 2003 and, as a follow on to this contract, McKissack & McKissack was contracted to provide program and construction management services for demolition of the existing convention center, construction of a new parking and staging lot, including stormwater detention system, tenant improvements, and analysis for the redevelopment of the old convention center site.
