Project Manager – Community Relations

McKissack & McKissack supports multiple education organizations as an owner’s representative on design and construction programs. This position would be supporting the US Virgin Islands Department of Education as the owner’s representative across a $3.5B FEMA funded program, expected to replace or modernize approximately 15 school facilities across the three US Virgin Islands: St. Thomas, St. Croix, and St. John, over the next ten years. As needed, this position may support other K-12 clients as well.

Role Description: 

The Project Manager – Community Relations will be responsible for supporting the owner’s representative team in the community engagement and communications management efforts of planning, coordination, and execution of the design and construction of new and/or renovated school projects. This role involves working pro-actively with the client and stakeholders to ensure effective community engagement and public interaction to provide consistent transparent information to all key stakeholders and the broader community.  

Reporting To: Project Executive

Location: Hybrid (DC Office and USVI Travel) 

Salary Range: $90k-$110k

Responsibilities:

  • Develop strong working relationships with client points of contact, key stakeholders, community organizations, school leadership, faculty and broader school communities, government agencies, contractors and consultants.
  • Plan and execute community engagement processes including preparing materials and information for sharing, planning and leading community meetings, facilitating Campus Architectural Team meetings, pro-actively making webpage updates, etc.
  • Create communications plans to consistently deliver project information and solicit feedback from appropriate stakeholders.
  • Develop and facilitate all Campus Architectural Team communications.
  • Assist project management team in developing messages, materials and written communication.
  • Interact daily with the clients to interpret their needs and requirements and consistently represent the Owner’s interest in meetings and in the field.
  • Collaborate with team members to resolve any issues or conflicts with stakeholders that arise during design or construction.
  • Ensure that all work is performed in accordance with owners’ policies, procedures, and industry standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, construction management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in stakeholder engagement, communications or general project management, experience in the design and construction industry strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of communications planning and engagement strategies.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant technology applications.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced, and multi-faceted team environment.
  • Experience working in the USVI strongly preferred.
  • Experience with projects using federal funding is a plus.
  • Travel up to 50% time or willingness to relocate to the USVI a plus.
