ROLE (High Level):

McKissack & McKissack is seeking an Infrastructure Construction Inspector to join the Washington, DC office. The candidate will perform daily inspection of construction projects monitoring quality and adherence to contract documents, construction drawings and project specifications. Adhere to strict safety standards, prepare inspection reports, and provide written documentation of observations and testing of materials. Communicate findings to engineer or project manager.

Your ROLE (Logistics):

Reporting To: VP of Infrastructure

Where You Work: Onsite

Salary range: $35/hour to $55/hr based on experience

What We NEED You to Have:

  • Associate's Degree in Civil Engineering Technology or Construction Engineering Technology preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
  • At least one or more certifications in the following areas:
    • Engineer with a minimum of three (3) years of bridge/highway construction experience.
    • National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) certified as a Transportation Engineering Technician Construction, Level II or higher, with a minimum of five (5) years of bridge/highway construction experience.
    • Be certified through a combination of the following agencies with a minimum of ten (10) years full-time experience as a construction engineer or inspector on bridge/highway construction projects
      • Mid-Atlantic Region Technician Certification Program (MARTCP) for concrete field and asphalt field.
      • The American Concrete Institute (ACI) for concrete sampling, inspection, and testing.
      • WACEL (Washington Area Council of Engineering Laboratories) for structural steel inspection, soil and concrete sampling, inspection, and testing.
      • MDOT or VDOT Inspector Certificates.

What We WANT You to Have:

The ability to:

  • Follow safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects.
  • Perform pre-task planning prior to executing work.
  • Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Perform inspection of a construction contractor’s work, as assigned by the Construction Manager/Project Engineer.
  • Ensure that the work follows approved contract plans and specifications.
  • Maintain inspection records and records of pertinent data regarding equipment, material, and labor.
  • Prepare daily inspection reports and keep the Construction Manager/Project Engineer and Lead
  • Advise the Inspector of inspection results, particularly items requiring re-work because of quality deficiencies.
  • Communicate information to Project Manager and other personnel as directed by the Project Manager.
  • Document nonconformance.
  • Provide clear documentation of findings and results.
  • Verify and maintain daily quantity data for use in processing payments.
  • Perform testing, observation, and inspection as directed in accordance with training and the specified procedures to determine if work is done according to contract specifications.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Perform basic analysis of data to verify accuracy before communication and submittal to the Project Manager.
  • Maintain equipment operation and calibration.
  • Assist more senior inspectors on large, complex projects.
  • Maintain quality standards on all projects.
