McKissack & McKissack’s work on a new Washington D.C. science facility enlarged the facility and more to meet the needs of the Metropolitan Police Department, Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and Department of Health.
After reviewing program details for three critical agencies and using their findings to create early conceptual designs and conduct space planning exercises, McKissack determined that the new District of Columbia Consolidated Forensic Laboratory would need an additional floor to meet the needs of the DC Metropolitan Police, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the Department of Health. To accommodate the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, McKissack carved out space on the sixth floor that had been previously dedicated to mechanical equipment. McKissack provided interior space planning, space programming, FF&E and tenant improvement services. During construction documentation and construction administration, McKissack also provided LEED consulting services and prepared all the necessary templates and sustainability documentation to secure LEED Platinum certification for the entire 315,000 SF project.
