McMillan Reservoir Stormwater Storage Facility

McKissack served as engineer of record providing design and construction management services for the McMillan Reservoir Stormwater Storage Facility.
The project involved using two existing abandoned underground filtration tanks at the McMillan Reservoir site to store stormwater during intense rainfall events, which would mitigate flooding in the downstream Bloomingdale neighborhood. Diversion structures with sluice gates and diversion sewers were designed to divert water flow from the First Street and North Capitol Street trunk sewers to these tanks. As part of a medium-term measure to stop flooding in Bloomingdale and LeDroit Park, the project also included the installation of numerous green infrastructure components, including bioswales, infiltration trenches, rain gardens, and interconnected planting beds.
